Pancake Day’s a coming

On tuesday in the UK we celebrate Pancake Day, more officially known as Shrove Tuesday. It does have religious connections however I apologise but I wouldn’t have a clue what nor am I religious. What I do know is pancakes are great and so easy to cook. Remember the mixture for pancakes can also make yorkshire puddings – it’s just how you bake them and what you add to them that makes the difference in taste ;)

You need
300ml Milk
1 egg
Plain Flour

Beat the egg into the milk. Then add flour and blend it in (a hand blender is best, or whisk) until it starts to thicken (sorry there is a weight to use but I don’t know it as I don’t have a set of scales!). To cook a pancake you can use either a light oil or butter. Heat a pan and then put it on a low heat. Add the oil/butter to cover the base of the pan and pour the amount desired into the pan – don’t make it too thin but don’t make it too thick either. When the top starts to set you want to turn it over. This is the fun part! I usually use a small wok so that I can flip it easier however a normal saucepan should work just as fine, just don’t try and throw it too high!

Serve it with a selection of:
Lemon Juice (fresh is best), Orange juice, caster sugar, maple or golden syrup, honey, vanilla icecream, or if you want to go all out, hot cherries.

Enjoy :D
