Back on the Diet

Okay so all of the parties are over for a while so now it’s time to get back on my diet. This time to help with encouragement and support Dave’s on the diet too (after a lot of talking and convincing!). When you’re dieting it’s not easy if the person next to you is happily chomping away on a packet of crisps or adding 3-4 slices of bread with each meal. I’m happy he’s helping me despite his jokes about it all.

When we worked out what we’d eat today I checked back in the GI Plan Book as I thought for the first two weeks it was 17 points for Women and 20 for Men per day. It’s not. It’s 17 for Women and 22 for Men! That’s not fair! A whole extra 5 points, that’s almost 33% extra over what I’m allowed. He was quite chuffed with that as he added an extra glass of Orange Juice or a Banana (each 2 points) to his menu.

Anyhow, I’ve realised in the past that forward planning is the best way to stick to a diet. If you’ve planned the day you won’t stop to think about whether you want it or the other options. So on the menu today is

Breakfast: Low GI Bran Cereal & Milk (4)
Lunch: Pasta, Tomato Sauce, Veg and Parmesan (3)
Dinner: Haddock, Salmon and Prawn Pie with low fat cheese sauce and fresh pasta topping. Plus veg (5)

My snacks: Glass of Strawberry and Banana smoothie (2), Apple (0.5), 1/2 Melon (2), Glass of Milk (0.5).

Dave’s snacks/extras: Tinned Tomatoes on 2 Granary toast with breakfast (4.5), Banana (2), 3 Plums (0.5), Mandarin (0.5), Orange Juice (2), Glass of Milk (0.5)

So far the breakfast has gone down fine for me. I used to eat Porridge or Museli but the other week I started to find that the oats were causing indigestion again. Something I used to suffer with a few years ago. I’d hoped it was just a one off but one day I was bad last week that I decided I had to stop eating them for a while. The bran cereal I have is marked as Low GI from the Weetabix makers (I forget the name of it). It’s okay, but it’s nothing fantastic. It’ll do for now until i find something just as fiberous and more tasty. At least it’s 23% fibre and I need to increase my intake of fibre. I think I had around 50g so that’s 11g of fibre already today. I aim to have the definitely recommended daily amount of 17g and maybe up to 20g if I can.

Oh starting figures:
Weight: X.9
Fat: Y.9
