Herb Plants and Cooking
I’ve decided to add a new category on herbs. Why? Well herbs are fantastic, they’re cheap and easy to grow and can add so much flavour to your food. These days the most common herb plants are ready grown for you at the supermarket, where you can pay less than £1 to have a full grown plant to use and continue to grow. Basil, Parsley, Chives and Thyme are typically readily available.
Other herb plants can be grown easily from cuttings. Some herbs are more suited to indoor climates, whereas others will survive outside, even through the winter. However be careful with planting herbs outside. Herbs will easily take over an area of ground. They’re strong plants and once they start growing they don’t stop! The best method is to either contain your herbs in pots, and just plant the pots in the ground, or alternatively take a small area of ground where you can contain the herbs in, and create yourself a small herb garden.
Remember, herbs are so much stronger and taste so much better when they’re fresh. I’ll be adding some simple recipes that use herbs well, and where the herbs make a difference.
