The Old Fisherman, Shabbington

It’s my parents’ wedding anniversary today (34 Years) and seeing as we’ve been staying with them for the past 2 weeks due to lack of ADSL at home we took them out for dinner in part to say thank you and in part to celebrate their anniversary. I did a bit of search on the web to find some local restaurants and we opted for The Old Fisherman which is a restaurant about 10 minutes from where they live, situated by the river (which after the recent rains is close to flooding!). The restaurant was a reasonable size with ample parking. I bet it’s a really nice place to go in the summer as it’s in a very peaceful countryside with the river running by. Of course sitting outside wasn’t in the plan today!

The menu covers a variety of dishes including several fish dishes, and they serve mainly local produce. I opted for Grilled Goats Cheese to start with which was really nice and creamy. I had the supreme of chicken for the main however I felt a little let down with this as the cream cheese and smoked cheddar seemed pretty non existent. I’m sure with this the chicken would have been less dry as well. However the dessert of a chocolate brownie, cherries and cream more than made up for it! My mum had the Salmon and it tasted very nice so I guess I was just unlucky.

All in all a nice evening out with a complimentary lemon sorbet after the main course - a nice way to clear your palette!
