Our Garlic Horde

Garlic So we’ve finally returned home and I’ve got my work cut out now! The garden has overgrown in areas and I’ve been out all day trying to make a dent in the work that needs doing.

However on a positive note, the garlic and shallots have been pulled up. The photo above (click for larger) shows our garlic horde. Some bulbs are a reasonable size but some are a lot smaller than I’d hoped for. I realise they won’t all come out perfect and I also think that some have not grown so large as they were in more sheltered spots and possibly got less sun.

Unfortunately most of the shallots were left in over the last two weeks and have rotted from the amount of rain we’ve had. I managed to get a few ‘clumps’ but most have been thrown into the compost. It’s a shame but it’s not put me off growing them and I’ll have another go next year. Still, the garlic looks great and smells great. I can’t wait to start using it!
