Do you get your ‘five-a-day’ of fruit and vegetables? I know I certainly don’t. I remember reading somewhere that in fact you should be eating 5 vegetables and 3 fruit a day, so actually eight-a-day instead. I also believe that you should try and insure you eat other certain foods every day to give you that healthy lifestyle, such as a yoghurt and fibre.
My plan is to create a chart to put in the kitchen for the month. On it is a list of various fruits, salad and vegetables that I’ll happily eat every day, plus a yoghurt and fibre meal too (my usual main intake of fibre is a bowl of branflakes for breakfast). Then the plan is that every day I can tick off one of each item listed. It sounds like something you may do with your kids but until I get into a real routine and remember (I know, sounds daft but I forget about eating a yoghurt or an apple), then it’s something to help remind me to have a bit of fruit throughout the day, to ensure I have a few extra vegetables and of course, a yoghurt.
It’s an attempt to try and eat healthier and improve my intake of fruit and vegetables. I’ll let you know if it works

I barely eat five month! Let alone five a day! I need to try sort it out!
Certainly sounds like you do
I must admit I’m not that bad at eating salad. If I have a sandwich then I’ll put as much lettuce, tomato and cucumber in it as I can. If I cook rice then I’ll throw in any veg we have such as spring onion, asparagus, peppers, peas, sweetcorn, same for a tomato sauce to go with pasta.
However I just need to stop buying and never eating yoghurts, and getting a bit more fruit into my diet.
Sometimes I struggle with getting two then some days I’m well over the five. Do you think that it evens itself out ?
I think we all hope it evens out. I can have days where I eat stacks of fruit or vegetables, and then other days where there is just no room for the veg, or it doesn’t go with the meal!
But sadly I don’t think it evens out
I never do. I don’t like many veggies except peas and corn (although I cook with them, I pull them out) but I do love fruit.
There are certain vegetables I don’t like, or don’t like done in a certain way. My Mum always used a pressure cooker to cook the veg and it comes out very soft. That really put me off cabbage and cauliflower. However now I cook cabbage until it’s just hot but still crunchy, and cauliflower cheese is fantastic.
I do actually like salad and vegetables, well most of them. It’s just combining the right stuff with each meal, and remembering to add them!
Is there a 5 a day drink, pill, or equivalent.
That’s be nice eh. Smoothies aren’t too bad, I think a glass can go towards one five a day, and you can get away with having 2 portions that way. Reduces how much you have to physically eat!
i think that is a good idea, bit weird but if it helps you to get more healthier then its good
i eat atleast four peices of fruit a day, roughly.
i enjoy my fruit though
good luck with it
Thanks Danni. I haven’t done my chart yet but I’m going to start sorting my eating out properly this month. I do get at least a couple of fruits into my daily diet, but that’s via smoothies!
