About
I’m a thirtysomething food and drink lover. I love to cook, I love to eat and I love to drink (in moderation of course!). I’ve lived in a few countries so I’m used to a variety of foods, although there are those that I just can’t stand such as mushrooms (it’s the texture not the taste), sprouts and curry. Yes, I’m a strange English person who cannot stand curry! I now live in north Wirral in Merseyside, and love it.
I love various foods, and enjoy trying them at home. We rarely eat traditional English dinners at home, besides a good Sunday roast, and opt more for favourites such as fajitas, risotto, stir fry and bolognaise.
I aim to try and cook with as little oil as possible, when possible, as weight is an issue as it is with a lot of the western world population these days. I also tend not to make many desserts, so you won’t find many of those on this site, mainly because we’d just eat them, and that’s not good for the weight loss!
We also love to eat out in the local restaurants although I think we’re getting harder to please, either that or too many restaurants just don’t know that a rare or medium steak doesn’t mean ‘well done’!
I’ve also been growing, or attempting to grow, various fruit, vegetables and salad over recent years. We currently rent so most of this is done in pots, boxes and hanging baskets, but it’s amazing what you can do even with a concrete garden! My dream of course is to have our own place with a nice sized garden, where I can grow everything we love. I take after my Dad, who grows plenty in a relatively small garden (although much bigger than ours!). I would love to have the space to have a nectarine tree as he gets so many off his and I never see English nectarines for sale in the local supermarkets.
At present we grow strawberries, chillis, tomatoes, lettuce, fine beans, gooseberries, and I have a gherkin plant on the go. I also have a few different herbs plus we have a 2m high bay tree in the garden.
This site is just a number of posts rambling about food and drink (dry white wine is my tipple, or a nice Baileys on ice), recipes I’ve either come across or worked out myself, posts on my latest gardening experiences and reviews of restaurants that we’ve been to. So go forth and enjoy
