Just an update to this. I pulled up 8 garlic bulbs a few weeks ago. As they were only in a trough they didn't grow very large but the garlic taste is just more concentrated. Good timing as all of the garlic in our cupboard had dried out as it was a bit old!

I lived in Spain and now am living in Holland and, believe me, it is almost impossible to get real cream here. I hate the fake rubbish too but hardly anyone serves real cream! You serve fake cream with a good apple pie or with Italian ice cream and what happens? You wreck it. Here they sell Irish coffee for about 8 euros (6 pounds sterling) with fake cream on top!! Most of the Dutch don't seem to care which is a shame because I have to ask every time "is it real cream or that artificial cream" and a lot of them here don't even seem to know there is such a thing as real cream.

The name seemed to have appeared around the earlier part of the 17th century but before that, the recipe was better known as Alloes or Alows (stuffed rolls of meat, not just beef but beef being more common) among some other creative spellings. A few of us were conversing this today... as in how Alows became Olives... we don't know why but it likely has nothing to do with olives or it's resemblance to one.

Oh yes I remember those! Yes sounds like more of an autumn strawberry. I've read about winter strawberries too. Something I wouldn't mind trying at some point. (Guess I should have distinguished that this post is about your standard early summer strawberries!).

Remember my pink-flowered strawberries? The fruits are only just turning red. I must have inadvertently bought a late fruiter, and it's quite surreal watching them grow.
